Neurology is medical branch dealing with diagnostics and treatment of brain diseases, spinal cord diseases, periphery nervous system and muscles disorders.
It is necessary to make difference between neurology and psychiatry which deals with diagnostics and treatment of mental illnesses, while neurology covers the diseases of nervous system.

"Dr Ristić" Health Centre neurology provides:
Neurology clinical examinations both for adults and children, in the premises ordination or in home visits.
Electromioneurography (EMNG)
Electroencephalography (EEG)
Ultrasound diagnostic of blood vessels in the neck and blood vessels in the brain.
Ultrasound Doppler for blood vessels in the neck
Transcranial doppler (TCD)

WHEN IS IT NECESSARY TO VISIT NEUROLOGY EXPERT :
Headache
Pains in the facial area
Vertigo
Dizziness
Fainting (loss of consciousness)
Cramps, convulsions of one of the extremities
Cramps, convulsions of one side of the body or of a complete body
Disorders in sleep regulation
Acute (sudden) disorders in eye vision (one or both eyes)
Double images, diplopia
Disorders of eye lids
Disorders of speech
Disorders of swallowing
Disorders of sense of smell
Buzzing in ears with or without disorders of sense of hearing
Weakness of one arm or leg, weakness of both arms and legs, weakness of one side of the body
More difficult movements of all extremities
More difficult individual movements of some parts of the body
Disorders of walk movements
Sense of instability, sort of  swaying
Sudden falls without losing consciousness
Existence of unwilling movements of any part of the body
Temporary or continuing forgetfulness
Sudden disorder of regular orientation, attention, perception
Appearing of tremor, tingling, convulsions in one or both arms or legs
Numbing of one side of the body.
Pains in the muscles, deterioration of muscles or tremor of muscles.
Problems with urinating and stool in case other causes are already excluded.
Exaggerated fatigue without other clear reason

Electromioneurography (EMNG) is diagnostics method of examining the function of periphery nerves and muscles. This procedure is always performed according to the advice of neurologist or physiatrist. Electromioneurography estimates the character and intensity of the periphery nerves and muscles damage and helps defining more precise prognosis of the periphery nerves and muscles disease. This method also serves for following the effects of the therapy for these diseases. Cooperation from the patient must be adequate and the method is completely harmless for the patient. The only inconvenience in this method is the use of thin needlelike electrodes and the use of low intensity electric stimulation of the nerves.

The neurologist will probably recommend EMNG in certain cases:
If you have chronic numbing of feet, legs or arms with or without sense of weakness in legs and arms
The sense of trembling muscles with signs of deteriorating of certain muscles or whole groups of muscles
Increased fatigue when using the muscle of shoulders area or while climbing upstairs
Pain and tension in muscles
Pains along one arm or leg in characteristic distribution
Pain in both legs with numbing of legs or lower back and disorders when urinating. . .

ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY (EEG) is diagnostic method of examining the function of brain through registering the electric activity of the nerves cells. The method is harmless, painless, safe and it requires a certain level of cooperation of the patient. The patient should have clean washed hair before examination, with avoiding hair cosmetics..
There are various modalities of examination:
standard EEG examination including provoking tests
EEG examination after a night without sleep
Halter EEG
Video EEG

This method is recommended in cases of:
Any sort of consciousness crisis, including or without body parts convulsions
Limb jerking and convulsions of body parts without losing consciousness
After head traumas including loss of consciousness or other resulting problems
Some forms of headaches
Sleep disorders

DOPPLER ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTICS OF NECK BLOOD VESSELS
represents ultrasound diagnostics method for estimation of structure and position of neck blood vessels, as well as characteristics of blood flow through those blood vessels. Arteries in the neck are the key arteries that take blood into brain and detecting these arteries’ structure and function represents most important information for estimating of risks, defining causes and follow up of the treatment process in vascular diseases of brain. The method is harmless, painless and reliable. Special preparation process is not necessary. It requires only partial cooperation of the patient.

This method is performed in patients with:
Sudden neurological problems such as:
Weakness in one side of body
Disorder in speech, confusion
Fainting (loss of consciousness)
Numbing of one side of the body
Double images, diplopia
Sudden falls without losing consciousness
Dizziness
Fainting (loss of consciousness)

In case of after stroke condition in patients previously diagnosed focal narrowing of neck blood vessels
In case of postoperative condition of patients diagnosed critical narrowing or partially blocked neck blood vessels
In case of postoperative condition of a patient with implanted aorta-coronary ‘by-pass’
In case of patient’s condition characterized by multiple risk factors leading to cerebral-vascular diseases
In case of any buzzing or sound in the neck, ears or head without clearly detected reason
In certain cases of headache, especially after minor or major neck trauma

TRANSCRANIAL DOPPLER (TCD) is ultrasound method of detecting blood flow through blood vessels in the brain. The method is harmless and painless. Before examination, patient should not use cosmetics for hair care. Depending on the sort of tests that are to be performed, it is necessary to obtain from minimal to more significant cooperation of the patient.

In hospital conditions, this method is recommended for patients suffering the following problems:
Brain stroke/cerebral infarction
In case of patient’s condition characterized by  diagnosed significantly narrowing or partially blocked neck blood vessels
In patients suffering from sudden symptoms such as: dizziness, double images, diplopia
sudden falls without losing consciousness, weakness in one or both sides of the body, temporary loss of one eye vision, fainting, etc
In patients having symptoms of dementia, disorientation, perception disorders
In patients suffering from migraine

In case you notice some of the above mentioned problems or disorders, or in case you think you should perform some of the additional diagnostics methods in neurology, medical experts services of the Health Centre "Dr Ristić" is at your disposal.
