Sports medicine in our health center primarily deals with sports cardiology and it has several tasks:
- To determine physical ability and condition of a sportsman by estimating the function of his/her cardiovascular system
- To find and select sportsmen while choosing them for competitive sports, which means excluding those persons who are, in the process of health examination, diagnosed heart diseases dangerous for their life safety
- Diagnostic procedure and treatment for sportsmen whose health condition is not good enough, as well as excluding such persons from trainings and competitions
- Detecting cardiovascular condition and abilities of persons older than forty who would like to start intensive physical trainings, especially if they already have some risk factors for coronary diseases (increased cholesterol in blood, smoking, high blood pressure, genetic factors, etc.)
‘’Dr Ristic’’ Health Centre is equipped for analyses – color Doppler of tissue, which enables differentiation of pathology and physiology hypertrophy of myocardium. This is of key importance for sportsmen because it has been well known that pathology hypertrophy of myocardium is the most important cause for severe heart arrhythmia that might end as sudden death. Along with additional 24 analyses (halter monitoring) of electrocardiogram and blood pressure tests, it is possible to gain very important information on one’s cardiovascular condition and to make decision about possibilities of further sportive engagement for each examined and tested person.
