{mosimage} Women live almost a third of their life in menopause. The main changes in this period are caused by decrease of female hormones level and aging of ovaries. Due to lack of estradiol in menopause, numerous symptoms occur, as well as many consequences because of that fact.

Heat attacks (valungs) are maybe most famous ones. However, there are headaches, anxiety, depression, senility, libido decrease, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, uro-genital atrophy and a series of changes on hair, skin and nails, as well as relocation of fat in abdominal region and increase of body weight.

All these changes can be decreased or may completely disappear by applying hormone substitution therapy

Hormone substitution therapy in menopause is a sort of treatment including direct compensation of female hormones, or avoiding unwanted effects by healing substances similar to hormones (tibolone).

According to some data, about 20% of women in Europe are under hormone substitution therapy

Contradictor opinions in expert circles often cause confusion concerning the relation between benefits and disadvantage or even risks of this kind of therapy. Still, most of experts agree that this treatment may be used after a detailed examination of a woman, including appropriate dosages, time and regular medical supervision.

Therapy cannot be applied to those women with breast cancer or other tumors in relation with estrogen, or even those women who had such cases in their family anamnesis, in case of acute or chronic liver diseases and blood vessels disorders, disorders in coagulation status, oversensitivity to some substances contained in the hormone medicine.
